At Hope’s Vegan Treats, every chocolate is handcrafted in small batches using high-quality, plant-based ingredients. A little care goes a long way in keeping them fresh and delicious.?
Can You Refrigerate Your Chocolate
While I’ve done this before especially during the warm summer months and the chocolate still tasted great, it’s not recommended for the following reasons:
- Chocolate easily absorbs surrounding odors (like onions, garlic, etc)
- Moisture can cause sugar bloom — a white, chalky coating that will show on the surface (looks weird, but still safe to eat!)
If you must place in fridge (and I’ve done this plenty of times), wrap your chocolate tight and place in an airtight container. Did your chocolate arrive soft from shipping? Place in fridge for a few minutes before enjoying!
Can You Freeze Chocolate?
Yep, you certainly can.
- Chocolate can be frozen for up to 2 months with minimal impact on flavor or texture
- For best results, keep chocolates well wrapped or in an airtight container
- Always allow frozen chocolate to thaw slowly at room temperature before opening or enjoying
Store in a Cool, Dry Place
Chocolate is best when stored at:
- 55–65°F
- Away from heat, humidity, and direct sunlight
A pantry or dark cupboard is usually perfect.
Shelf Life (Best Enjoyed Fresh)
Because our chocolates are vegan, preservative-free, and made fresh, they’re best enjoyed within these timeframes:
- Filled chocolate bars & bonbons: 2–4 weeks
- Plain chocolate bars: Up to 6 months when stored properly
(They’ll be fine for months after, but taste best when enjoyed sooner).
Keep Chocolate Out of the Light
Sunlight and even strong indoor lighting can:
- Cause chocolate to soften or melt
- Lead to bloom or flavor dullness over time
White and lighter chocolates are especially sensitive, but all chocolate prefers shade.
Use an Airtight Container Once Opened
Once unwrapped, store chocolates in an airtight container to:
- Protect against moisture
- Prevent odor absorption
- Maintain that perfect snap and smooth texture
To Summarize…
While chocolates can be stored, they’re at their very best when eaten sooner rather than later.
If you do need to save some for later, now you know exactly how to keep them just right.
